JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna (JAM MUSIC LAB Privatuniversität für Jazz und Popularmusik Wien), founded in 2011 and accredited as a private university by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria) with Federal Ministry approval in 2017, is Austria’s first and only private music university dedicated holistically to jazz, popular music, media music, and contemporary creative industries. Situated inside Gasometer C in Vienna’s Music City district, JAM MUSIC LAB offers Bachelor of Arts (BA), Master of Arts (MA), and Doctor artium (Dr. art.) degrees spanning performance, composition, music production, film scoring, instrumental/vocal pedagogy (IGP), and arts management. Under the artistic leadership of Rector Marcus Ratka and an internationally celebrated faculty of working Grammy-winners, jazz masters, and studio producers, the university bridges artistic excellence with commercial music industry readiness. Its alumni and students regularly headline European jazz festivals, compose for international film/TV, and benefit from institutional partnerships with Austrian public broadcaster ORF/Ö1 and Vienna’s premier creative clusters.
