The Norwegian Defence University College (Forsvarets høgskole — FHS / NDUC), with roots dating back to the establishment of the Norwegian Military Academy (Krigsskolen) in 1750, is Norway’s premier state military higher education and strategic research institution. Operating as an accredited specialized university college (vitenskapelig høgskole) under the Norwegian Ministry of Defence and NOKUT, NDUC is responsible for educating all commissioned officers, military engineers, aviators, intelligence specialists, and strategic commanders for the Norwegian Armed Forces and NATO allies. Headquartered at the historic Akershus Fortress in Oslo, NDUC commands constituent academies across Norway: the Norwegian Military Academy (Krigsskolen at Linderud, Oslo), the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy (Sjøkrigsskolen in Bergen), the Royal Norwegian Air Force Academy (Luftkrigsskolen in Trondheim), the Norwegian Defence Cyber Academy (Cyberingeniørskolen at Jørstadmoen, Lillehammer), the Norwegian Defence Command and Staff College (Stabsskolen), the Norwegian Defence Intelligence School, and the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS). As a fully state-financed military institution, education at NDUC is 100% tuition-free (NOK 0), with cadets receiving full board, free military housing, uniforms, comprehensive medical coverage, and a monthly paid salary/cadet allowance during their studies, followed by guaranteed permanent officer employment upon graduation.
