About Liepāja Maritime College of Riga Technical University
Founded in 1876 in the historic Baltic seaport city of Liepāja, the Liepāja Maritime College of Riga Technical University (RTU Liepājas Jūrniecības koledža - RTU LJK) is Latvia’s oldest and most venerated maritime education and training institution. Operating under the European Qualifications Framework (EQF Level 5) and the International Maritime Organization’s STCW-78/95 Convention standards, RTU LJK prepares professional deck watchkeeping officers (Navigators/Ship Masters), marine engineers (Ship Mechanics), and international transport logistics specialists. Integrated with Riga Technical University (RTU), the college combines short-cycle professional higher education diplomas (2 to 3 years / 120 to 180 ECTS) with vocational secondary maritime schooling (Jūrskola) and an accredited Seafarers’ Training Centre. Equipped with Transas/Wärtsilä full-mission navigation bridge simulators, engine room simulation consoles, GMDSS telecommunications suites, machine workshops, and practical sea training on commercial vessels across global trade routes, RTU LJK cadets graduate directly with international seafarer licenses and 100% credit articulation into RTU Latvian Maritime Academy bachelor degree programs.
