About Université catholique de Louvain
Founded in 1425 by Papal Bull of Pope Martin V, the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) is one of Europe’s oldest, most revered, and research-intensive universities. As the largest French-speaking university in Belgium, UCLouvain educates more than 40,000 students from over 130 nationalities. Following the historic linguistic division in 1968, UCLouvain achieved an architectural and urban planning triumph by building Louvain-la-Neuve—Europe’s first entirely pedestrian university town conceived from the ground up for academic pursuit, sustainability, and vibrant communal living. The university boasts 14 faculties across three major sectors: Science and Technology (including the world-class Louvain School of Engineering - EPL), Health Sciences (centered around the prestigious Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels Woluwe), and Humanities and Social Sciences (featuring the triple-accredited Louvain School of Management - LSM and ESPO). UCLouvain is a founding member of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities and the Circle U. European University Alliance, driving pioneering scientific breakthroughs while offering an extensive array of English-taught master’s and doctoral degrees.
